American Rabbi: Judaism Prevents the Establishment of Any State, and Zionists Distort the Torah
An American rabbi expresses strong opposition to the existence of the Israeli state, claiming that true Judaism forbids Jews from establishing a state in Palestine.
Rabbi Yisrael David Weiss, a spokesperson for the international organization 'Neturei Karta', firmly opposes the Israeli state, stating that genuine Judaism does not grant any Jewish individual the right to establish a state in Palestine. In an interview on Al Jazeera's 'Masa'eya', he elaborated that not only are the Jews not entitled to claim Palestinian land, but they are also forbidden from residing in the state of Israel. He emphasizes that from the inception of the Israeli state, religious authorities have protested its existence, facing violent reprisals like attacks and assassinations.
In his remarks, Weiss discusses the contrasting histories of Judaism and Zionism, asserting that Judaism has served as a faith dedicated to the worship of God for over three thousand years, while Zionism has only persisted for about 140 years. He characterizes the founding figures of the Zionist movement, such as Theodor Herzl and David Ben-Gurion, as secular and not sufficiently observant of religious Jewish practices, accusing them of distorting the Torah to fit their political agenda.
The rabbi also claims there has been significant international opposition to the Israeli state, highlighting protests at pivotal locations such as the White House and Congress, along with large gatherings in Jerusalem aimed at reinforcing the message that the Zionist state lacks legitimacy. His comments reflect an ongoing tension within the Jewish community regarding the intersection of religion and nationalism, raising questions about the legitimacy of national claims as they relate to religious beliefs.
