Israeli rabbi condemns increase in settler attacks in the West Bank
An influential Israeli rabbi has condemned the rise in violence by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank amidst increasing organized violence.
An influential Israeli rabbi, closely linked to the far-right, has publicly condemned the recent spate of violent attacks by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank. Rabbi Eliakim Levanon expressed his disapproval in an open letter, stating that acts of property destruction and harm to any individual, whether Jewish or non-Jewish, are fundamentally unethical. This condemnation comes against a backdrop of escalating violence, with settlers launching several attacks resulting in fatalities and injuries among Palestinian communities.
In the past few days alone, Palestinians buried the bodies of four individuals, three of whom were killed in an assault by settlers on the village of Abu Falah, located northeast of Ramallah. Another Palestinian lost his life in a separate incident at the hands of settlers in Wadi al-Rakhim in southern West Bank. Furthermore, several Palestinians have been injured due to settler attacks on towns in both northern and southern parts of the West Bank, highlighting the serious implications of this growing violence on local Palestinian populations and communities.
Reports from the Palestinian official news agency, Wafa, indicate that at least four Palestinians were injured due to settler aggression in the towns of Beita, Jamma'in, and Awroub near Nablus in northern West Bank. One of the injured individuals was reportedly sprayed with pepper gas during the attacks. The increasing frequency and severity of these assaults underscore the urgent need for dialogue and intervention to address the rising tensions and violence between settlers and Palestinian residents in the occupied territories.
