Expansion of Yambo - Ambato road motivates $104 million investment

The expansion of the Yambo - Ambato road will benefit over 5 million people in central Ecuador with a $104.1 million investment.

The expansion of the Yambo - Ambato road is a significant infrastructure project aimed at benefiting more than 5 million residents in the central Sierra region of Ecuador. This initiative involves extending the road to six lanes, directly linking the provinces of Cotopaxi and Tungurahua, and is currently underway with the government's investment of $104.1 million. Over 11 kilometers of road are being expanded, which is expected to enhance regional accessibility and stimulate economic growth.

Current construction efforts are focused on clearing buildings within the expropriated section of the road, along with activities such as debris removal, cleaning, and excavation of slopes. Crews are transporting approximately 6,250 cubic meters of material to authorized debris sites. Environmental mitigation measures are also being implemented, including dust control and engagement processes with local communities to ensure understanding and support for the project.

Authorities anticipate that this road expansion will not only improve traffic safety and reduce travel times but also boost trade, production, and regional competitiveness. The project is part of broader reconstruction efforts in the area, emphasizing the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and promoting economic development in central Ecuador.
