Progress on the Monay-IESS traffic distributor project, on the Cuenca-Azogues route, reaches 25%

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa and Infrastructure Minister Roberto Luque announced that the Monay-IESS traffic distributor project has achieved 25% completion, with an investment of $43.3 million.

On March 18, President Daniel Noboa visited the Monay-IESS traffic distributor project on the Cuenca-Azogues highway, accompanied by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Roberto Luque. This strategic project is pivotal for improving mobility between the provinces of Azuay and Cañar, located at the northern entrance of Cuenca. The government claims this project has been anticipated for over a decade, primarily due to long-standing traffic congestion and accidents at this bottleneck.

During the visit, Minister Luque outlined the details of the $43.3 million investment in the construction, highlighting a 25% completion rate that surpasses initial expectations according to the contract's schedule. The project's advancement is viewed positively, considering the urgent need for modernized infrastructure to mitigate chronic traffic problems experienced in the area.

In addition to improving transportation efficiency, the project is set to create around 300 jobs, contributing to local employment opportunities. As work continues, the focus remains on timely completion to alleviate the traffic challenges plaguing the Cuenca-Azogues route for many years, reinforcing the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
