Azuay will receive $130 million in road and housing infrastructure in 2026
The Azuay province in Ecuador will receive a $130 million investment for road and housing infrastructure projects in 2026, aiming to enhance transportation and living conditions for its residents.
The province of Azuay in Ecuador is set to benefit from significant investments in road and housing infrastructure in 2026, totaling $130 million. This funding, allocated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT), aims to improve the province's roadways and living conditions, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for its residents. Minister Roberto Luque has emphasized the importance of this investment in addressing local infrastructural needs.
Key progress has already been reported on various roadworks in Azuay, particularly the Monay-IESS traffic distributor on the Cuenca-Azogues highway, which has reached 17% completion, surpassing initial expectations of only 10-12%. Luque expressed confidence that if the current pace of construction is maintained, the elevated structure covering the Azogues-Cuenca route will be operational by the end of this year, followed by further developments in adjacent projects. This progress indicates a commitment from authorities to improve transportation infrastructure swiftly and effectively.
In addition to the Monay-IESS project, the planned improvements in the 12 de Octubre and Gapal distributors are also progressing, with only the bidding processes remaining to be finalized. This proactive approach to infrastructure development in Azuay not only aims to facilitate better traffic flow but also reflects a broader initiative to promote sustainable urban and regional development in the province, aiming to foster economic growth and improve the daily lives of its inhabitants.
