The Tax Agency's New Service: Calculate Your Tax Refund Now

The Swedish Tax Agency has introduced a new online service for taxpayers to estimate their tax refunds ahead of the annual declaration period that begins in March.

The Swedish Tax Agency has rolled out a new online tool called 'Calculate Your Tax' that allows taxpayers to assess their potential tax refund or owed amount before receiving their official declarations in March. This proactive approach by the agency enables those who are curious to gain insights into their tax situation earlier than before, a service reported on by media outlets including Aftonbladet and P4 Göteborg.

To use the service, individuals must input basic information such as their birth year, municipality, and membership status in local religious communities, making the initial process fairly straightforward. However, the second step involves providing income figures from the previous year, which can be more challenging due to uncertainties taxpayers have about their exact earnings. Martin Pernheim, a tax administrator at the agency, highlighted this complexity, noting that many taxpayers might not remember their exact income details from the previous year.

Fortunately, users can easily access information from previous years by logging into the 'Mina sidor' portal, where they can review their income records from 2025. This feature is meant to facilitate the accurate input of income data, ensuring a more reliable estimate of potential tax outcomes. The introduction of this tool reflects the Tax Agency's commitment to improving taxpayer experience and enhancing transparency in the tax reporting process.
