Zelensky: Russia invests in attacks, not diplomacy
Ukrainian President Zelensky urges allies for new air defense supplies as Russia escalates drone and missile attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly called on Western allies for an increase in air defense supplies, especially missiles for the Patriot launchers, in light of a significant escalation in Russian attacks. During the weekend, Russia launched 297 drones and approximately 50 missiles targeting Ukrainian infrastructure, including energy facilities, logistics, and urban water systems. While a substantial portion of these attacks was intercepted, Zelensky emphasizes the need for improved defenses as Russia continues its aggressive military tactics.
Further complicating the situation, neighboring countries Hungary and Slovakia have accused Ukraine of intentionally delaying repairs to a pipeline damaged by Russian forces. This accusation adds a layer of diplomatic strain in the region as Ukraine is already facing multiple fronts of conflict with Russia's persistent military campaign. Zelensky's comments highlight the ongoing confrontation not only in military terms but also in the geopolitical landscape of Eastern Europe, stressing the urgency for international support in bolstering Ukraineβs defensive capabilities.
Amid these developments, Zelensky pointed out that Moscow is prioritizing military investments over diplomatic solutions, underscoring a troubling trend in the response to the ongoing war. The emphasis on increasing military aid from allies showcases the critical need for Ukraine to strengthen its defenses against continuous Russian aggression, which poses a significant threat to its sovereignty and regional stability.
