Zelensky: Russia targets energy centers and invests in military escalation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of increasing military aggression by targeting energy infrastructures and launching extensive missile and drone attacks across Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russian forces launched a significant attack involving 50 missiles and 300 drones aimed at the capital city of Kyiv and several other regions, resulting in one casualty and eight injuries. He emphasized that the attacks were concentrated on energy facilities across various locations including Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, and Sumy, and underscored that the assaults reached the Kyiv region and the strategic port city of Odesa, exacerbating Ukraine's ongoing struggle against Russian military aggressions.
Zelensky further critiqued Moscow's failure to pursue diplomatic resolutions, asserting that instead, Russia is heavily investing in a military escalation that jeopardizes both Ukrainian lives and infrastructure. This latest series of assaults highlights the urgency for Ukraine to acquire effective missile defense systems to counter the threat posed by Russian ballistic missiles. He noted the significant deployment of over 1300 drones and additional military equipment by Russia within just this week, showcasing an alarming increase in military operations.
In the evening update, Odesa's regional governor Oleksandr Kubrakov reported that nighttime drone attacks targeted energy infrastructure in his region, leading to substantial fires that have since been extinguished. This ongoing conflict continues to shape the regionβs security landscape, drawing international attention and concern over the humanitarian crisis and the resilience of Ukrainian defenses against sustained military offensives from Russia.
