Oyo agency vows to prosecute notorious land grabbers
The Oyo State Real Properties Protection Law Agency has warned against self-help in land disputes and emphasized the importance of lawful redress instead of resorting to violence.
The Oyo State Real Properties Protection Law Agency has issued a stern warning against the use of self-help methods in land disputes, highlighting that resorting to violence in property reclamation is both criminal and punishable by law. The agency urged residents to pursue legal avenues for resolving land disputes, as violent actions often lead to further conflict and public disorder. This stance comes as part of the agency's effort to promote peaceful resolution of property issues and to uphold the rule of law in the state.
In recent weeks, the agency has ramped up efforts to crack down on land grabbing activities, which have become a growing concern in Oyo State. The Chairman of the agency, Justice Olajumoke Aiki (retd.), reiterated during a review of the agencyβs progress that no individual or group is above the law. This declaration underscores the agency's commitment to protecting legitimate property owners and ensuring that land grabbers are held accountable for their actions.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, supported the agency's position by urging community members to channel their grievances through official channels rather than engaging in violent self-resolution. The agencyβs initiatives are aimed not only at safeguarding properties but also at maintaining public peace by preventing escalation of land-related conflicts, which can have significant implications for community relations and security in Oyo State.
