Imo warns against illegal sale of land at redemption estate
The Imo State Government in Nigeria has issued a warning against the illegal sale of government-owned land at Redemption Estate and stated that actions will be taken against violators.
The Imo State Government has taken a strong stand against reports of illegal land sales at Redemption Estate, particularly within Phases 1, 2, and 3 located in Avu, Owerri West Local Government Area. A public notice released by the government emphasized that various individuals and land speculators have been wrongfully selling and allocating plots within the estate while falsely claiming to have the authority of the Imo State Housing Corporation. This warning reflects the growing concern over encroachment on government property and illegal land transactions within the state.
In the warning, signed by Nze Nwaneri, the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Compliance, the government underscored its commitment to safeguarding public land and ensuring compliance with the Land Use Act as well as other relevant land administration laws. The statement clarified that no permissions or approvals had been issued for any land sales or allocations in the Redemption Estate. By taking this stance, the Imo State Government aims to prevent any further illegal activities related to land ownership and protect its investments and properties.
This proactive measure is significant given the ongoing challenges related to land speculation in Nigeria, where unauthorized sales can lead to disputes and loss of government revenue. The government's decisive intervention not only seeks to uphold the law but also aims to reassure residents and legitimate investors of the state's resolve in maintaining integrity in land dealings. Such actions are crucial in fostering a secure environment for development and investment in the region.
