Olubadan cracks down on land grabbers, hands suspect to DSS
The Olubadan of Ibadanland has intensified efforts against land grabbing, resulting in the arrest of a suspect who was handed over to the Department of State Services.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has taken strong measures against land grabbing in the region by handing over a suspect to the Department of State Services (DSS). This action stems from an ongoing ownership dispute involving two families—the Akoto and Ojofeitimi families—over land in the Elebu area of Ibadan. Currently, two other suspects associated with the case remain at large.
Ladoja's commitment to addressing this issue is further reflected in his recent establishment of a five-member committee on land grabbing, inaugurated on October 14, 2025. This committee is tasked with addressing land acquisition disputes from a legal standpoint, and its members include prominent legal practitioners, such as Senior Advocates of Nigeria, among others. The goal of this committee is not just to curb land grabbing practices but also to provide a legal framework for resolving such disputes.
This initiative highlights the escalating concerns over land ownership crises in Ibadan, particularly now as community leaders like Ladoja are stepping up to safeguard land rights against illegal grabs. Such actions could set a precedent for how land disputes are managed in Nigeria, potentially influencing future policies regarding land ownership and rights within local communities.
