This has been awaited: Electric all-wheel drive for under 40,000 euros

Suzuki has introduced its first electric all-wheel drive vehicle, the Vitara, priced under 40,000 euros for the Finnish market.

Suzuki has made a significant leap into the electric vehicle market with the introduction of its first electric all-wheel drive model, the Vitara, which is set to launch in Finland. This vehicle, priced at €38,690, is positioned as an accessible electric option for consumers, showcasing Suzuki's commitment to producing affordable vehicles despite having a relatively limited product development budget compared to larger corporations. The Vitara, manufactured in India, is a sister model to Toyota’s upcoming Urban Cruiser and aims to fill a gap in the market for budget-friendly electric cars.

The electric Vitara is equipped with a 61-kilowatt-hour battery, producing a combined output of 183 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 307 newton-meters. The design of the vehicle sees an increase in size compared to its predecessor, boasting a length of 4.275 meters, which is nine centimeters longer than the previous hybrid version, while its wheelbase has been extended by 20 centimeters. This increase in dimensions is likely to enhance both interior space and driving stability, critical factors that buyers consider when opting for larger vehicles.

As the automotive industry shifts towards electrification, Suzuki’s entry with the electric Vitara could signal a growing trend of affordable electric vehicles hitting the market. By targeting the under €40,000 segment, Suzuki may appeal to a broader demographic, including those who are budget-conscious yet environmentally aware. If successful, this model could influence other manufacturers to follow suit, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape for electric vehicles in Finland and beyond, making electric ownership more accessible to everyday consumers.
