A 19-year-old man in Jyväskylä was sentenced for causing extensive damage to his rental apartment, including throwing a television out the window and damaging various fixtures.
In Jyväskylä, a 19-year-old tenant was found guilty of severe property damage after a series of destructive actions in his rental apartment between May and November 2021. The young man caused extensive damage by breaking windows, kitchen cabinets, and furniture, while also throwing items out of the window, including a television, and damaging appliances like a refrigerator and stove. Overall, he destroyed multiple parts of the apartment, leading to significant disruption and mess.
During the incident, the tenant not only wrecked his belongings, such as a TV stand, gaming console, and computer but also vandalized the apartment itself by breaking side doors and creating extensive damage to the walls and furniture. One particularly noteworthy act was the injury to a refrigerator where he punched it, leaving noticeable dents. His actions also resulted in substantial water damage, impacting both his own unit and several neighboring apartments when he ripped a radiator off the wall.
At the Central Finland District Court, prosecutors sought a harsh penalty for severe property damage. Additionally, an insurance company claimed approximately €12,600 in damages caused by the tenant's destructive behavior. This case highlights the potential legal consequences of property damage and raises concerns about tenant responsibilities and the measures taken to protect rental properties.
