Linden Grove in Via Marina, the silo offered by ACI rejected
The Municipality aims to create a vast green promenade that connects via Senato to the Montanelli Gardens and Villa Belgiojoso Bonaparte, while the first phase of the project, focusing on Via Marina, is set to begin soon.
The Municipality of Milan is embarking on an ambitious project to transform a section of the city into a vast green promenade, intended to serve as a "park among parks." This promenade will extend from via Senato to connect with the Montanelli Gardens and Villa Belgiojoso Bonaparte, with plans to also close via Palestro to traffic. This endeavor is classified as a top priority within the Public Works Plan, although it may require significant resources. As highlighted by the City Councilor for Green Spaces, Elena Grandi, the project will need either an executable plan for accurate budgeting or sponsorship to bring it to life.
In the meantime, preparations for the first phase of the project are underway, focusing on the rejuvenation of Via Marina which lies between via Boschetti and the Obelisk of Bottonuto. This phase involves planting 93 young linden trees, each approximately ten meters tall, alongside the removal of 700 square meters of asphalt surface. This will allow for the expansion of the parterre and the development of a new central pedestrian walkway, aimed at enhancing the area’s aesthetics and promoting outdoor activities.
Furthermore, the redevelopment of the Linden Grove is reminiscent of designs from the 18th century by architect Giuseppe Piermarini. This historical element adds cultural significance to the project, which reflects Milan’s initiative not merely to create green spaces but also to preserve and revitalize its historical heritage. The positive implications of such developments are considerable, potentially improving air quality, biodiversity, and citizens' quality of life in urban settings.
