A teacher in Gorakhpur committed suicide after alleging that a clerk demanded a bribe for releasing his salary, as detailed in a suicide note and video he left behind.
In a tragic event in Gorakhpur's Gulriha area, a teacher from Deoria committed suicide by hanging himself on the morning of February 21. The teacher left behind a four-page suicide note and a video accusing a clerk from the Deoria education department of harassing him and demanding a bribe of 1.6 million rupees for the release of his salary. The act came as a culmination of the stress he faced due to financial difficulties and professional corruption.
The deceased, originally from Kushinagar, was employed at the Krishak Laghu Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Madrasan and was reportedly living with his family in his elder brother's house at Shivpur Sahbazganj. He had sold his wife's jewelry and taken loans from the bank to make the payments demanded by the clerk, showcasing the severe pressures educators face in the region. After his family alerted the authorities, police arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
The incident underscores the troubling intersection of corruption in the educational sector and its devastating impact on teachers' lives. The police have initiated an investigation into the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the harassment and enable accountability, hoping to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
