Teacher Sold Wife's Jewelry, Took Loans, Still Did Not Receive Salary ... Teacher Committed Suicide

A teacher in Deoria, India, committed suicide after selling his wife's jewelry and taking loans without receiving his salary.

On the morning of February 21, a 37-year-old teacher named Krishna Mohan Singh took his own life at his residence in Gulariya, Gorakhpur. Originally from a village in Kushinagar district, Singh was employed at a small secondary school in the Gauri Bazar development block of Deoria and had been living in Gorakhpur with his elder brother. Around 6:30 AM, he was found hanging in his room, prompting a police investigation that included a post-mortem of the body.

Before his death, Singh left behind a four-page suicide note and recorded a video in which he accused a clerk from the Deoria education department of harassment and taking a large sum of money from him. The note has been seized by the police as part of their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic end. This incident has raised significant concerns over the treatment of teachers in the education sector and the issues of financial pressures they face.

The suicide highlights the urgent need for addressing mental health issues and the working conditions of educators, particularly in rural areas where they may face financial difficulties without support. Authorities are now under pressure to look into Singh’s allegations seriously and to ensure that systemic failures that lead to such tragedies are addressed, to prevent further incidents of this nature in the future.
