Police seize medications, cigarettes, and tires without invoices with convoy on highway in the interior of SP
Police in São Paulo seized a convoy of vehicles transporting illegal goods from Paraguay, including medications, cigarettes, and electronic items.
The Civil Police of São Paulo conducted a significant operation on Saturday morning, apprehending two vehicles filled with contraband goods from Paraguay in Presidente Epitácio. The operation unfolded when police observed six vehicles traveling together on the Raposo Tavares Highway. Upon signaling for the vehicles to stop, four managed to evade capture while two were pulled over and inspected.
During the inspection, police discovered a variety of illicit items including three vials of the medication Tirzepatida, 50 packs of cigarettes, 10 electronic cigarettes, a pair of new tires, and various toys. Notably, all items lacked proper documentation and import authorization, raising concerns about both smuggling and the safety of unregulated products entering the Brazilian market. The two drivers were taken to the Federal Police Station in Presidente Prudente for questioning.
Although the drivers were interrogated, they were subsequently released and allowed to respond to the charges in freedom. However, the seized vehicles and goods remain in police custody. This incident highlights ongoing challenges Brazil faces with illicit trade and border control, particularly regarding the influx of contraband from neighboring countries such as Paraguay.
