Snow expected across most of Latvia at night
Latvia is forecasted to experience snowfall and slippery conditions overnight into Sunday, with temperatures dropping to between -1 and -6 degrees Celsius.
Latvia is anticipating a night of overcast skies and moisture, primarily in the form of snow and wet snow, across most of the territory. In central regions, snow accumulation is expected to increase by 5 to 7 centimeters, contributing to slippery road conditions, particularly due to possible freezing drizzle in some areas. Moderate winds from the south will shift to come from the west and northwest, with gusts reaching up to 15 meters per second. Temperature readings are expected to drop to a range between -1 and -6 degrees Celsius.
In the capital, Riga, the night will also bring cloud cover and precipitation, with similar forecasts of snow and wet snow, and again the risk of freezing drizzle. The wind will moderately blow from the south before shifting directions in the morning. The temperature is predicted to hover around -4 to -5 degrees Celsius, indicating a cold and potentially hazardous night for drivers and pedestrians alike.
By Sunday, February 22, brief sunshine may appear, but precipitation will predominantly occur in the first half of the day in the eastern and some central regions. Despite some improvement, the risk of refreezing remains a concern in certain areas, as westerly winds continue to impact the weather conditions throughout the day.
