Illustrations of Estonian Children's Literature Presented at the UN Headquarters in New York
An exhibition showcasing illustrations from Estonian children's literature was launched at the UN headquarters in New York, emphasizing children's rights through art.
This week, an exhibition titled 'Children's Rights: Protected Through Stories' featuring illustrations from Estonian children's literature was inaugurated at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The exhibition presents 23 pieces selected from contemporary Estonian children's books, each linked to a specific article of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This initiative aims to raise awareness about children's rights through engaging storytelling and artistic expression.
The illustrations on display were carefully chosen by the Estonian Children's Literature Centre, and each artwork is accompanied by the book it originates from. Triin Soone, the director of the Estonian Children's Literature Centre, expressed her joy about introducing newer Estonian literature to an international audience. She emphasized that the exhibition aims to demonstrate how stories and illustrations help children understand their rights while supporting the development of important values.
Soone also highlighted the rich variety in contemporary Estonian children's literature, noting that it not only reflects children's everyday lives and imaginative worlds but also plays a crucial role in fostering a secure environment for their growth. By showcasing these works at such a prominent venue, the exhibition aspires to inspire and educate both children and adults about the importance of recognizing and advocating for children's rights globally.
