Motorway Closed for 16 Hours to Demolish Overpass
Traffic on the East Jutland Motorway near Horsens will be diverted for 16 hours due to the demolition of an overpass.
Traffic on the East Jutland Motorway (Østjyske Motorvej) near Horsens will face diversions from Saturday evening to Sunday morning as a part of roadworks for the demolition of an overpass. The closure will affect both directions between exits 55 Horsens N and 56a Horsens V, starting from 5 PM on Saturday until 9 AM on Sunday. Drivers are advised to follow the indicated detours and expect increased travel times during this period. The Danish Road Directorate has reported that the military home guard will assist with traffic management during the closure to minimize disruptions.
The demolition is part of a larger expansion project aimed at increasing the capacity of the East Jutland Motorway, which currently experiences significant traffic congestion. The road is set to be expanded at four locations, with the most substantial stretch being between Vejle and Skanderborg, increasing the number of lanes from four to six over a 38-kilometer stretch. This expansion is critical given the growing traffic volumes in the area, and the ongoing projects reflect an effort to address these congestion issues.
With daily traffic jams already commonplace on this section of the motorway, the roadworks and future expansions are essential for facilitating improved traffic flow as demand continues to rise. Authorities emphasize the need for these enhancements in light of the increasing number of vehicles on the motorway system, suggesting that without suitable upgrades, traffic conditions are likely to deteriorate further in the foreseeable future.
