Truck fire closes Sønderjyske Motorway in northbound direction

A truck caught fire on the E45 Sønderjyske Motorway, causing significant visibility issues and resulting in the closure of the road in the northbound direction.

A fire broke out on a truck traveling on the E45 Sønderjyske Motorway shortly after the Kolding Ø exit and before the junction towards Vejle and Fredericia. The local police, Sydøstjyllands Politi, reported the incident through their communication service, indicating that the flames generated a large column of smoke which severely reduced visibility on the motorway, necessitating its closure for traffic headed north.

Fire services are expected to be on-site for about an hour as they work to control the blaze. In the meantime, the Vejdirektoratet (Road Directorate) has announced that significant delays are anticipated, advising drivers to prepare for extended travel times as the cleanup and recovery operations unfold. The incident is expected to be resolved during the morning hours, allowing traffic to resume more normally.

As the situation develops, police have noted that a sign truck is en route to the scene. Once it arrives, authorities hope to open one lane for northbound traffic, gradually alleviating congestion that has built up due to the fire. This unfortunate event highlights the challenges faced on major roadways when incidents occur, especially during peak hours of traffic where visibility and safety are compromised.
