Controlled access enabled for merchants near Multicomercio for merchandise retrieval
The municipal company Segura EP has coordinated controlled access for merchants affected by the Multicomercio building fire in Guayaquil to retrieve their goods.
In response to the devastating fire at the Multicomercio building in downtown Guayaquil, the municipal company Segura EP has arranged for controlled access for nearby merchants to retrieve their merchandise. This initiative commenced on February 20, where a first group of affected citizens were allowed into the restricted area, known as ground zero. The situation remains delicate as authorities are taking steps to ensure safety while facilitating the recovery process for those impacted by the incident.
Γlex Anchundia, the general manager of Segura EP, reported that no issues occurred during the first day of access and emphasized that the process will be gradual, allowing every affected party to resolve their situation without a strict deadline. The access is specifically limited to property owners and businesses in the vicinity of the fire site, ensuring that only those directly impacted can retrieve their items. Merchants are relieved at the opportunity to gather their goods, especially as many have reported significant losses due to the incident.
Moreover, reports highlight additional incidents in Guayaquil, such as a balcony collapse affecting four sisters, which underscores the ongoing challenges in the city amidst various accidents. The efforts to facilitate access for the affected merchants reflect an urgent response from local authorities, aiming not only to address the immediate needs of the business community but also to reassure residents in the wake of recent calamities.
