Fire at Multicomercio: Streets Closed and Traffic Restrictions Today

A fire at the Multicomercio towers in the Bahía sector of Guayaquil has led to extended traffic restrictions and ongoing firefighting efforts by over 400 firefighters from various cities.

The ongoing fire at the Multicomercio towers in the Bahía area of Guayaquil has resulted in heightened traffic restrictions as officials widened the restricted area from 100 to 200 meters around the site. The restrictions affect important streets from Brazil to Olmedo, including several critical transverse streets, making navigation in the area considerably challenging.

In response to the fire, which has already caused the collapse of at least two of the five towers, the local Emergency Operations Committee (COE) has mobilized a significant number of firefighters—over 400—from not just Guayaquil but also neighboring cities such as Samborondón, Daule, and Milagro. These firefighters are engaged in intense efforts to control the blaze that has impacted multiple structures and the safety of residents in the vicinity.

As a result of the emergency, four stops of the Metrovía system located along Eloy Alfaro street have been rendered unusable. The situation is fluid, meaning ongoing assessments and updates are necessary as firefighters continue their battle against the flames and work to clear the impacted area of any danger for both residents and first responders.
