São José dos Campos publishes tender for concession of the old Horto Florestal for 20 years; initial investment is R$ 5.5 million
São José dos Campos has opened a public tender for the 20-year concession of the Horto Florestal, including a planned initial investment of R$ 5.5 million.
The city of São José dos Campos has published a public bidding announcement for the concession of the Municipal Natural Park Augusto Ruschi, commonly known as Horto Florestal, located in the Northern Zone of the city. This park has been closed since 2020, and the new concession aims to revitalize it with private investments totaling R$ 5.5 million over the first two years. The project outlines plans for reopening the park to the public while ensuring that access remains free, supplemented by guides and monitors to enhance visitor experience.
Furthermore, the proposed project includes the establishment of an exhibition center and various activities focused on the preservation of the Atlantic Forest. The opening of the bids for this concession is scheduled for April 8. The concession was green-lighted by the São José dos Campos City Council, with the Mayor Anderson Farias' bill receiving 15 affirmative votes against six negative votes in September of the previous year, indicating a supportive consensus for the project among the council members.
This initiative not only aims to revitalize a previously closed recreational site but also reflects the local government's commitment to environmental preservation by enhancing the park's educational and ecological value. By developing the Horto Florestal, the city hopes to foster a greater appreciation for its natural resources, improve eco-tourism, and engage the community in environmental stewardship, which could ultimately benefit local conservation efforts and strengthen civic pride.
