Procon says Sapucaí Box will have to reimburse customers for overcrowding and hot drinks

Procon Carioca has mandated that the Camarote Rio Praia must reimburse customers who felt wronged by overcrowding and service issues during a carnival event.

Procon Carioca has announced that the Camarote Rio Praia, a VIP box at the Sapucaí Carnival venue, is required to reimburse tickets for customers who reported feeling aggrieved due to overcrowding and inadequate service during the carnival event held on February 17. Complaints specifically cited instances of overcrowding and the serving of hot beverages, prompting the agency to take action against the company.

On February 20, the Procon, which is the municipal department for consumer protection in Rio de Janeiro, informed the box's management that they would need to devise a reimbursement plan to address the grievances of those affected. The box's operators claimed that although they reconfigured the layout of the venue this year, thus impacting guest movement, they adhered to the maximum capacity regulations and stated that their services had been functioning normally. However, this assertion was challenged by consumer feedback.

The company has been given 24 hours to provide further clarifications regarding the complaints, with Procon emphasizing the importance of protecting consumer rights during large events such as Carnival. The implications of this situation extend beyond just individual reimbursements, as it raises questions about event management and consumer safety in similar future events, especially during high-traffic occasions like Carnival in Brazil.
