As the Amazonian winter brings heavy rains, the channels of Macapá have again raised concerns regarding potential flooding. The Civil Defense has ramped up visits to critical areas within the city to warn residents about the risks of water accumulation and the importance of proper waste disposal. On Thursday, a team visited the Timbiras Canal in the Beirol neighborhood of southern Macapá, where they provided the community with measures to mitigate problems during the rainy season.

According to Aldair Santos, the coordinator of the Civil Defense, improper waste disposal is one of the primary causes of clogged drainage systems, which increases the risk of flooding. The Civil Defense emphasizes the importance of community participation in keeping canals clear of waste, warning that neglecting this responsibility can lead to severe consequences for families living in the affected areas. Their message is clear: maintaining clean environments can drastically reduce the incidence of flooding and its associated dangers.

In addition to providing guidance, the Civil Defense has committed to daily monitoring of various locations throughout the city. This effort is being conducted in collaboration with the Urban Maintenance department, which cleans up the areas identified as critical. By combining direct community engagement with consistent oversight, the Civil Defense aims to enhance public safety and protect Macapá's residents from the inevitable challenges presented by the rainy season.
