Heavy rain causes flooding in several areas of Macapá
Severe rain in Macapá has resulted in significant flooding and traffic disruptions across the city.
Heavy rain this past Monday afternoon in Macapá led to widespread flooding in several areas, notably on Odilardo Silva street in the South Zone, where vehicles struggled to pass due to high water levels. The intense rainfall not only inundated roads but also resulted in downed trees in various parts of the city, with a particularly large tree blocking a road near a Bank of Brazil agency in the city center.
The Municipal Civil Defense has deployed teams throughout the city to assess critical areas affected by flooding and to clear blocked roads. Assessments from the State Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (Iepa) indicate that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue until Thursday, potentially exacerbating the flooding situation if precautionary measures are not taken.
Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and motorists are urged to reduce their speed to prevent accidents. The ongoing adverse weather highlights the vulnerabilities of urban infrastructure in dealing with severe rain events and stresses the importance of preparedness against such natural occurrences.
