Government announces a 5.6% raise for Piauí state employees; project will be sent to Alepi
The government of Piauí announced a 5.6% salary adjustment for state employees, effective from May, set to be legislated by the state legislative assembly.
On Friday, the government of Piauí declared its intention to propose a law to the Legislative Assembly of Piauí (Alepi) that would establish a 5.6% salary adjustment for state public servants. This adjustment is projected to come into effect starting in May 2025. Governor Rafael Fonteles stated that the raise, which applies to all active and retired state employees including both civilian and military personnel, aims to provide an increase that exceeds the official inflation rate of the year 2025, which is projected at 4.26% according to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).
The announcement was made via social media channels, reflecting the government's strategy of maintaining transparency in its fiscal policies. The wage increase not only serves to counteract inflation but also ensures a real earnings increase for the state employees affected by this policy. Governor Fonteles emphasized the importance of this adjustment in acknowledging the hard work of civil and military servants, thereby reinforcing the government's commitment to public sector workers.
Additionally, the Piauí government has been expanding its public hiring initiatives in recent years, with over 6,000 job openings announced across various sectors. This move not only demonstrates a commitment to creating job opportunities amid Brazil's economic challenges but also reinforces the importance of investing in human resources to improve public services and governance in the state.
