The incident occurred in Campos dos Goytacazes, where another 17-year-old remained hospitalized with injuries, although reports indicate that he is showing signs of clinical improvement while under observation in the Intensive Care Unit. According to José Luiz Pimentel, the prosecutor overseeing cases of youth in the region, it was revealed that the fire was set intentionally by the adolescents themselves in the housing unit. Despite the rapid response of emergency services, the extent of the burns suffered by both youths was severe, leading to tragic consequences, including Medeiros's death.
