Woman dies days after being burned by ex in Campos Belos, police say

A woman in Campos Belos, Brazil, has died days after suffering severe burns inflicted by her ex-partner, who allegedly used alcohol in a failed attempt to kill her.

Mariana Melo Soares de Oliveira, a woman from Campos Belos in the northeastern region of Goiás, Brazil, tragically died four days after suffering life-threatening burns inflicted by her ex-boyfriend. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 11, was reported by the Military Police, who stated that the suspect was arrested on the same day. The attack was allegedly motivated by the suspect's anger over the end of their relationship, leading him to use alcohol in an attempt to set her on fire.

Following the attack, Mariana was taken to the Unidade de Pronto Atendimento de Campos Belos before being transferred to the Hospital Estadual de Urgências Governador Otavio Lage de Siqueira (Hugol), where she succumbed to her injuries on February 16. Witnesses, including a family member, reported finding her engulfed in flames inside her home, alongside her minor daughter. The police have not disclosed the suspect's name, and G1 was unable to seek a comment from him regarding the incident.

This tragic case highlights the alarming issue of domestic violence in Brazil, where such violent crimes are unfortunately frequent.
