Nestlé will leave the ice cream business and focus on more profitable areas

Nestlé has announced it will exit the ice cream business to concentrate on more lucrative segments such as Coffee, Nutrition, and Pet Care.

Nestlé has officially announced its decision to exit the ice cream business, stating that it will shift its focus to areas considered more financially rewarding. The segments of Coffee, Nutrition, and Pet Care are highlighted as they collectively account for over 70% of the company's sales. This strategic move is part of a broader effort by President Philipp Navratil to enhance the company's overall performance, optimizing their portfolio to align with their strongest brands.

In a recent statement, Navratil emphasized the need to accelerate strategy and simplify organizational structures to improve operational efficiency. The decision comes amidst a notable decrease in the company’s net profit, which fell by 17% to US$ 9 billion in 2025 compared to the previous year’s earnings. Additionally, there has been a reported decline in overall sales, prompting Nestlé to refocus on areas with higher growth potential.

The planned exit from the ice cream market signifies a significant shift for Nestlé, known globally for its diverse product offerings, including popular ice cream brands. This pivot might reflect changing consumer preferences or market dynamics that favor other food segments, and it raises questions about the company's future direction and competitiveness within the food industry.
