There was a car - only charred remains left: specialists reveal when this happens

In Lithuania, seven vehicle fires were reported in a single day, marking the highest number recorded both this year and last, with no casualties.

The Fire and Rescue Department of Lithuania reported a concerning trend in vehicle fires, with a record seven incidents occurring in just one day across multiple cities, including Vilnius, Telšiai, and Alytus. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from these fires, which raises awareness of the increasing risk associated with vehicle fires in the region. This alarming statistic also condenses a notable frequency of such events, particularly this past January and February, where a significant increase in incidents has been documented compared to the previous year.

As of February 19th, 2025, there have already been 141 vehicle fires this year, an increase from 105 during the same period the previous year—almost a 34% uptick. In 2024, Lithuania saw a total of 845 vehicle fires, indicating a worrying trend as the numbers not only maintain but appear to worsen in 2025. The recorded vehicle fires accounted for 10.6% of all fires recorded in the country, signifying a substantial concern requiring attention from both the public and officials.

The most common causes for these fires are electrical malfunctions, representing 57.6% of the incidents, followed by other technical failures at 16.1%. With the rising statistics, experts are urging vehicle owners to be more vigilant regarding maintenance and the condition of electrical systems within their vehicles to mitigate the risks associated with such fires, especially as the trend continues to rise without substantial intervention measures taken in the automotive safety sphere.
