Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Plant reopens for visits in Porto Velho; see how to schedule

The Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Plant in Brazil reopens for tourist visits starting Saturday, offering a chance to explore its facilities for free.

The Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Plant, the fourth largest in Brazil, is re-opening its doors for public visits as part of the Circuito Energia program. Visits will start on Saturday, allowing tourists to tour the facility and appreciate the scenic views of the Madeira River and the dam structure. This initiative aims to educate the public about hydroelectric energy in a local context while appealing to residents and visitors alike.

The guided visits last approximately two hours and cover a three-kilometer stretch of the dam, providing insight into the operations of the hydroelectric plant. Visitors will have the opportunity to use binoculars to enhance their viewing experience of the reservoir and gain a deeper understanding of the plant's architecture. The initiative is designed to make the hydroelectric complex more accessible to the public, thus fostering a better appreciation for renewable energy sources.

To participate in this free program, interested individuals must register via the Sympla events platform, where they can select from eight available time slots on Saturdays and Sundays. The program is open for participants aged 14 and older, aiming to involve a broad audience in experiencing the plant firsthand and promoting renewable energy awareness within the community.
