Krcmař Shot Down His Chance for a Medal on the Last Shot, Finished Sixth in the Mass Start

Biatlonist Michal Krčmář missed out on a medal after four shooting errors in the final mass start race at the Olympic Games.

Czech biathlete Michal Krčmář competed in the final mass start race at the Olympics in Italy, striving for a medal. Unfortunately, he faced a setback with four shooting errors in his final attempt, which resulted in a sixth-place finish. Throughout the race, he had to complete five penalty laps due to these mistakes, ultimately impacting his medal hopes significantly.

Norwegian Johannes Dale-Skjevdal emerged victorious, followed by compatriot Sturla Holm Laegreid in second place and French athlete Quentin Fillon Maillet securing third. The performance of the Czechs was further marked by Vítězslav Hornig, who finished in 19th place, indicating a mixed day for the Czech team at the Olympic level.

The 35-year-old Krčmář matched the Czech record for Winter Olympic appearances, now at 20, previously held by skier Kateřina Neumannová. He sought to earn a second Olympic medal, having won silver in the sprint at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Despite finishing sixth, Krčmář recorded the best individual result for Czech biathletes in this year's Olympics, notably beating competitors Philipp Nawrath of Germany and Johan-Olav Botn of Norway in the final sprint for sixth position.
