Krčmář on the Extreme Finish: Scrap, Lactate Up to the Throat. I Couldn't Stand on My Feet

Czech biathlete Michal Krčmář delivered a heroic performance in the final leg of the Olympic relay, securing the Czech team a coveted sixth place.

In a gripping finale to the Olympic relay, experienced biathlete Michal Krčmář led the Czech team to a hard-earned sixth place, overcoming fierce competition from both Finnish and Swiss rivals. This achievement was particularly significant as the team aimed to improve on their disappointing 19th place finish at the last Olympics in Beijing, where they had to withdraw from the race due to being a lap behind. Krčmář's exceptional performance helped fulfill the team's ambition of placing within the top six.

The Czech team, consisting of Tomáš Mikyska, Vítězslav Hornig, Petr Hák, and Krčmář, managed to maintain their elite status in biathlon, marking their sixth place finish for the third time in a row. This result also mirrored their performances in the World Cup events held in Oberhof and Ruhpolding earlier in January. Historically, the Czech team has seen six-place finishes in the 2006 Turin and 2010 Vancouver Olympics, only achieving a better result in 2002 Salt Lake City where they placed fifth.

With such a competitive field, Krčmář expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating that achieving fifth or sixth place represents a quality outcome in today’s competitive environment. The team’s resilience and strategy were crucial in securing this result, highlighting their growth and determination since the previous Olympic challenges, and setting a positive tone for future competitions.
