Collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and Google renewed for training public servants in Artificial Intelligence
The Greek Ministry of Interior and Google have signed a new memorandum of cooperation to enhance training for public servants in Artificial Intelligence, expecting a significant increase in participation over the coming years.
The Ministry of Interior of Greece and Google have renewed their cooperation with a new memorandum aimed at training public servants in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance digital skills within the public administration, with a deadline for implementation set for December 31, 2026. The training is expected to significantly benefit various public administration bodies, with organizations like the National Center for Public Administration and Self-Government and the Institute of Continuing Education playing key roles in its execution.
Since 2019, the Greek Ministry of Interior has been actively engaged in the training of public officials in both basic and specialized digital skills, including AI. The program has gained popularity among public servants, as evidenced by the number of participants projected for the 2023-2025 period, which is set to reach 85,772. In 2023 alone, 10,273 public servants participated in the training on digital skills, with numbers expected to rise significantly in the following years—23,250 in 2024 and 52,249 in 2025—demonstrating the growing acceptance of this initiative within the public sector.
The collaboration between the Ministry and Google underscores a trend towards integrating advanced technology into government operations, which could enhance efficiency and service delivery to citizens. As the public sector increasingly adopts digital tools, the focused training on AI will likely equip officials with the necessary competencies to leverage technology effectively, marking a significant step forward in modernizing public administration in Greece.
