A truck loaded with 26 tons of granulated polyethylene overturned and caught fire on BR-251 in Brazil, but the driver escaped unharmed.

On Thursday afternoon, a truck carrying 26 tons of granulated polyethylene overturned and caught fire on BR-251, near Serra de Francisco Sá in Brazil. The driver reported that he lost control of the vehicle after hearing a loud explosion, causing the truck to veer off-road, tumble down an embankment, and subsequently catch fire. Fortunately, the 25-year-old driver was unharmed and declined medical transportation to the hospital.

The Brazilian Fire Department responded quickly to the incident, managing to control the flames with the assistance of a fire truck provided by the Francisco Sá City Hall. After extinguishing the fire, the team conducted cooling operations on the site to prevent further hazards. The truck was en route from Camaçari in Bahia to Paraná when the accident occurred, indicating a potential issue with the vehicle or its load that could raise concerns about safety regulations on Brazilian highways.

In addition to the fire department, the Federal Highway Police were also on the scene to manage traffic, implementing a “stop and go” system to ensure safety while crews attended to the overturned truck. This incident not only highlights the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials but also underscores the importance of emergency responsiveness in mitigating such accidents on major highways.
