Couple arrested with 5,000 ecstasy pills on Fernão Dias highway, in Vargem
A couple was arrested in Brazil with 5,000 ecstasy pills while traveling on the Fernão Dias highway.
A couple was apprehended for interstate drug trafficking after being caught with 5,000 ecstasy pills and other drugs on the Fernão Dias highway in Vargem, São Paulo, on the night of Thursday, 19. The Federal Highway Police were conducting routine checks at kilometer 7 of the highway, which connects São Paulo and Minas Gerais, when they stopped a vehicle for inspection. In the car were a rideshare driver and two passengers, a 34-year-old Brazilian woman and a 32-year-old Slovenian man, who claimed they were in Brazil for leisure purposes and were en route from Florianópolis to Belo Horizonte, working in music.
Upon searching the vehicle, police detected the smell of drugs from the trunk, which led to a thorough inspection. This incident highlights not only the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in Brazil but also the risks associated with the transportation of illegal substances across state lines. The couple's story about their vacation in Brazil and involvement in music raises questions about the circumstances that might have led to their involvement in drug trafficking, possibly reflecting a larger trend where individuals, perhaps unwittingly, become embroiled in criminal activities while seeking new experiences. The police's proactive measures aim to curb such drug-related incidents, contributing to safer highways and communities.
