SGBV: Lagos DSVA urges residents to use toll-free line for reporting cases
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency is promoting a toll-free helpline for residents to report cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is actively reaching out to the communities of Igbooye and Odomola in Epe to raise awareness about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Through community sensitisation sessions, residents are being encouraged to utilize the agencyβs toll-free helpline, 0-8000-333-333, to report any instances of abuse. The initiative aims to educate the public on the forms and impacts of SGBV, as well as the importance of timely reporting to ensure the safety and well-being of survivors.
Community leaders and traditional rulers have expressed their support for this initiative, emphasizing the need for residents to speak out against abuse. The DSVA has highlighted its commitment to grassroots collaboration, aiming to create an environment where survivors can access confidential and responsive support services. This approach is essential in tackling the pervasive issue of SGBV, promoting a culture where abusers are brought to justice and victims feel empowered to seek help and protection.
Attended by six chiefs and 80 community members, the engagement sessions have proven to be an effective platform for education and awareness. The involvement of local leaders not only lends authority to the message but also fosters a supportive community atmosphere where individuals are encouraged to discuss sensitive issues of violence and abuse. As the DSVA continues to push for increased reporting of SGBV cases, it underscores the importance of community participation in addressing and ultimately reducing these incidents in Lagos State.
