Three people are arrested and 50 kg of marijuana are seized in Greater BH

Three individuals have been arrested and approximately 50 kilograms of marijuana have been seized during a Military Police operation against drug trafficking in the Greater Belo Horizonte area.

In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Military Police in the Greater Belo Horizonte area arrested three people and confiscated around 50 kilograms of marijuana on Friday, November 20. The operation was initiated following intelligence reports indicating a large drug transaction occurring in the Laguna neighborhood of Contagem. Officers monitoring the area discovered an abandoned vehicle packed with marijuana, which had been left by a couple who fled the scene upon noticing police presence.

Shortly after abandoning their vehicle, the couple attempted to escape but was apprehended at a residence in the Barreiro region of Belo Horizonte. During their escape attempt, the female suspect jumped over a wall and suffered a fractured foot, requiring medical attention at the UPA Leste (a local Urgent Care Unit). The military personnel conducted a search of the property where additional illicit substances were discovered, including 217 marijuana bars, portions of skunk, and other already packaged drugs.

This operation reflects ongoing efforts by Brazilian authorities to combat the growing issue of drug trafficking and its associated violence within urban areas. The arrests and seizures are expected to have a temporary impact on local drug operations, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with organized crime and ensuring public safety in metropolitan regions like Belo Horizonte.
