‘Suspension of Membership Rights’ Baehyun-jin of the National Power, Files Application for Suspension of Disciplinary Action in Court
Lawmaker Baehyun-jin, who received a one-year suspension from the National Power party, has filed for a court injunction to halt the disciplinary action against her.
Baehyun-jin, a member of the National Power party, has filed for an injunction at the Seoul Southern District Court to suspend a disciplinary action that imposed a one-year suspension of her party membership rights. On the morning of the filing, she remarked to journalists that she intends to correct what she describes as an unjust reprimand using the rule of law. She explained that she did not apply for a review within the party due to urgent preparations for local elections, believing it wouldn't be meaningful after facing what she considers an unfair disciplinary action by the party's ethics committee.
The disciplinary action against Baehyun-jin was primarily due to her alleged infringement of child rights by posting a minor's photo on her social media without authorization. This has led to her removal from her position as the chairperson of the Seoul City Party. She defended her past six years of efforts to protect children's rights and expressed her concerns over facing personal attacks and harassment within her party after voicing opposition to certain policies and asking for accountability from the party leadership.
Despite a recent call from a fellow party member for a reconsideration of her disciplinary action, many within the party and beyond anticipate that the likelihood of reversing the decision is minimal. The upcoming Supreme Council meeting on the 23rd is expected to address the situation, but skepticism remains regarding the potential for any change to the disciplinary action against Baehyun-jin.
