Rep. Bae Hyun-jin says the leadership should reflect after court decision to suspend disciplinary action

Rep. Bae Hyun-jin's request to suspend her disciplinary action was granted by the court, prompting her to call for reflection from the party's leadership.

Representative Bae Hyun-jin of the People's Power Party had her request to suspend the disciplinary action against her granted by the Seoul Southern District Court. The court's decision halted a one-year suspension of her party membership, imposed by the party's ethics committee due to her posting a photo of a critic's minor child on social media, which was deemed an infringement of children's rights. Following the ruling, Rep. Bae emphasized the need for the party to move forward and operate normally in light of the upcoming local elections.

In a press conference immediately following the court's decision, Rep. Bae welcomed the ruling as a "wise judgment" and expressed her intention to resume her role as the chair of the Seoul city party, announcing plans to establish a nominations management committee. Her calls were echoed by other party members aligned with former leader Han Dong-hoon, who labeled the ruling a victory for common sense and criticized the faction in the party that they believe is damaging the traditional conservative party's reputation.

The leadership of the People's Power Party is now deliberating on how to respond to the court's ruling. Previously, party leader Jang Dong-hyeok had dismissed calls from the pro-Han faction to rescind Rep. Bae's disciplinary action, indicating that there would be no reconsideration of the matter. This internal conflict highlights the ongoing tensions within the party regarding its direction and leadership in the face of electoral challenges ahead.
