Ulsan Whales-Lotte Giants to Open Futures League on December 20 at Munsoo Baseball Stadium
The Ulsan Whales, a newly formed team, will make their debut in the Futures League against the Lotte Giants on December 20.
The Ulsan Whales are set to make their debut in the professional baseball Futures League with an opening match against the Lotte Giants on December 20 at 6:30 PM at Munsoo Baseball Stadium in Ulsan. According to recent confirmations from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and the city of Ulsan, the schedule for the newly established Ulsan Whales has been finalized, marking a significant step for baseball in the region.
The Ulsan Whales will compete in the Southern League alongside teams such as KT Wiz, NC Dinos, Lotte Giants, Samsung Lions, and KIA Tigers. In a reorganization, the military team, Sangmu Phoenix, has moved to the Northern League along with teams like Hanwha Eagles and LG Twins. Over the season from December 20 to September 20, a total of 726 games will be played across the league, with the Whales having a majority of their 61 games at their home stadium, Munsoo Baseball Stadium.
To enhance fan attendance, particularly among working individuals and families, Ulsan city officials have requested adjustments to game scheduling, moving away from the traditional weekday daytime slots that often clashed with 1st team matches. The league has also instituted rule changes addressing game cancellations and innings limits, emphasizing a more engaging experience for spectators. Ulsan city representatives aim to strengthen local sports culture, preparing thoroughly for the opening match and home games to foster community involvement.
