Spring has arrived for baseball fans... KBO League spring training starts on the 12th

The KBO League will kick off its spring training on the 12th, while the Korean national team prepares for the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals.

As the Korean national baseball team gears up for the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic in Miami on the 14th at 7:30 AM, the KBO League is set to commence its spring training games starting on the 12th. Although many key players are called up to the national team, this period allows new faces to get familiarized within the league. This year's spring training will feature a total of 60 games played from the 12th to the 24th, with each team participating in 12 matches, starting at 1 PM, and without the possibility of extra innings or rescheduling rainouts.

All the new regulations for the season will also be put into effect during the spring training, including a pitch clock that reduces the interval between pitches by two secondsβ€”18 seconds with no runners on base and 23 seconds with runners. The previously introduced check-swing video review will continue, allowing teams two challenges, and strategic overruns at second and third base will now also be subject to video replay. Additionally, umpires at first and second base will use wireless intercoms to decrease the time needed for video reviews.

The previous spring training in 2022 set a record with 321,763 spectators attending 42 games, highlighting an average of 7,661 fans per game, which is the highest on record. This enthusiasm carried over into the regular season, which saw another record with over 12 million attendees. Baseball fans can watch the spring training games broadcasted on various sports channels and OTT platforms, with games scheduled on the 12th across five venues including Icheon and Gwangju. Moreover, the regular season of the KBO League will commence on the 28th for the third consecutive year.
