Trio Arrested Suspected of Posing as Service Providers to Steal Elderly People's Cards in Interior SP
Three individuals were arrested in Bauru, Brazil, suspected of being part of a criminal group that stole bank cards from elderly residents by posing as service providers.
In Bauru, São Paulo, three suspects, including a 32-year-old man, his 34-year-old sister, and a 23-year-old accomplice, were arrested on Thursday morning. They are accused of being part of a criminal organization that specializes in stealing bank cards from elderly individuals. The suspects allegedly posed as service providers, such as internet and gas technicians, to gain access to the victims' homes and commit their crimes.
The Civil Police reported that at least five elderly victims have been targeted, with one victim suffering a loss of R$ 24,000 due to unauthorized withdrawals and purchases made using their stolen bank card. During the police operation, the authorities discovered a bank card belonging to a 77-year-old woman that had just been stolen from a nearby residence. This evidence underscores the premeditated nature of the crimes and the vulnerability of the elderly in such schemes.
Additionally, police confiscated several items from the suspects, including Wi-Fi routers, gas installation equipment, and toolkits that were used to maintain their disguise during these criminal acts. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full extent of the group's operations and potential other victims, highlighting the increasing need for protective measures for vulnerable populations against similar criminal tactics.
