Fear of being expelled from home turned him into a murderer; brother strangled sister with a dupatta
In a shocking honor killing in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, a brother murdered his sister and fabricated a kidnapping story to mislead the family, but police investigations uncovered the truth leading to his arrest.
A disturbing incident reminiscent of honor killings has unfolded in the village of Targav in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, where a brother, Ajay, has confessed to murdering his sister. On February 18, he had gone to pick up his sister from a nearby village, but upon his return, claimed that she had been kidnapped by some individuals after being drugged. This fabricated story was ultimately dismantled during police investigations.
Following the fatherโs complaint, the police initiated an inquiry, during which they subjected Ajay to intense questioning. It was then that he confessed to the murder, revealing that he had strangled his sister with a dupatta (scarf). The police recovered the body based on his indications. The case drew attention to the dynamics of familial honor and the extreme actions taken out of fear of being expelled from the family, as Ajay claimed he was afraid his sister would make him leave their home.
Further investigations revealed that Ajay had attempted to cover up the murder by staging a robbery and kidnapping scenario, scattering items around to mislead the authorities. This incident highlights the recurring problem of honor-related violence in India, prompting discussions about the underlying patriarchal values that may drive such heinous acts.
