Five people died and 11 were injured in an accident involving a 'pirate' van and a truck on BR-020 in the Federal District.
In a tragic accident on the BR-020 highway in the Federal District of Brazil, five individuals lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries after a pirated van collided with the rear of a truck. The incident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday, October 17, as the van was en route to Brasília from Santa Rita de Cássia in Bahia. The accident site was located near Planaltina in the DF, close to the border with Formosa, Goiás.
Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured to the State Hospital of Formosa (HEF) in Goiás, where seven victims were admitted. On Tuesday, three children and one adult were discharged, and by Wednesday, a 10-year-old boy also went home. However, a 15-year-old girl, who was in critical condition, was transferred to a specialized hospital on Wednesday for further treatment. As of Thursday, a 16-year-old girl remains stable and is receiving care in the medical ward of HEF.
The report from the Health Department of the Federal District indicates that the other four injured individuals are still being treated. This unfortunate event raises concerns about traffic safety on Brazilian highways, particularly regarding 'pirate' transport services, which are often unregulated and may pose significant risks to passengers and drivers alike.
