Four of the five victims who tragically lost their lives in a van accident on BR-020 in the Federal District have been identified by the police.
Five individuals died in a tragic incident involving a 'pirate' van that collided with a truck on BR-020 in the Federal District during the early hours of Tuesday, October 17. The accident caused injuries to eleven other individuals, highlighting the dangers associated with illegal transportation methods in Brazil. The victims range from a young child to adults, which adds a layer of tragedy to the event.
The Police Department of the Federal District has confirmed the identities of four victims: Ravi Gael da Silva Vogado, aged 4; Everaldo de Oliveira Santos, 52; Geneilde da Silva Lima, 39; and Laudenice Vogado de Oliveira, 58. The van, which began its journey from Santa Rita de Cássia in Bahia, was heading towards Brasília when the collision occurred near Planaltina, close to the Goiás border. This incident raises concerns about the safety regulations surrounding the operation of unlicensed vans in Brazil.
The van's driver, who reportedly had been on the road for 13 hours straight, sustained a femur fracture and underwent surgery at the Regional Hospital of Planaltina. After surgery, he spoke to the police and indicated that he had been making the same route for about two years with the same group of passengers. This ongoing situation points to the need for stricter enforcement of transportation laws to ensure passenger safety and prevent such heartbreaking accidents in the future.
