Thaw is coming to Latvia
A thaw is expected in Latvia, leading to increased melting of the snow cover as temperatures rise in early March.
In Latvia, the last working day of the week is expected to be gray and overcast with temperatures rising due to a thaw predicted by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC). Clouds will cover most of the sky, with rain anticipated in some northern areas, and freezing rain possible in the eastern regions. Visibility may also be reduced by fog during early morning hours.
The weather will feature a light to moderate southern and southwestern wind, which could strengthen to 15-16 meters per second in coastal areas early in the day. Afternoon temperatures are forecasted to reach between +1 and +5 degrees Celsius. In the capital city, Riga, predominantly cloudy weather is expected, but no precipitation is anticipated. The maximum temperature in Riga will be around +2 to +3 degrees Celsius, as per LVĢMC predictions.
Looking ahead, the weather in the upcoming days is expected to remain mostly dry as temperatures stay above freezing during the day. However, nighttime temperatures may drop to zero in many areas. Overall, the forecast indicates a gradual transition towards milder weather with a continued thaw affecting the snow cover across the country, signaling the approaching spring season.
