Sheep and Goat Pox: Over 2,000 confirmed cases

Greece reports over 2,100 confirmed cases of sheep and goat pox and significant livestock deaths amid ongoing disease management efforts.

According to a recent announcement by the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food, along with the National Scientific Committee for Disease Management and Control of Sheep and Goat Pox, the number of livestock destroyed has reached 479,821. The outbreak has affected 2,610 farms across the country, with a total of 2,105 confirmed cases of the disease reported. In the latest update covering the period from February 9 to 15, 2026, there were 10 new cases identified in seven Regional Units, including Aetolia-Acharnia and Achaias, among others.

The report emphasizes the importance of continually updating the figures related to the disease's progress, as they rely on final data submissions from the Regional Units. The ministry assures that comprehensive and accurate information will be regularly published to keep producers and the public well-informed regarding the situation.
